ABOUT US
Greenup County Emergency Management is dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the environment through emergency planning, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. We work closely with local, state, and federal partners to coordinate resources, develop emergency plans, conduct training exercises, and ensure public safety during all types of disasters. Whether preparing for severe weather, hazardous materials incidents, or large scale emergencies, our mission is to enhance community readiness and support a swift, effective response when it matters most. Together with our partners, we are building a safer, more prepared Greenup County.
PLAN AND PREPARE
Being prepared for emergencies can make the difference when disaster strikes. Having a plan in place protects you, your family, and your community. Start by knowing the risks in your area, develop an emergency plan, and develop a plan to communicate with your family. Check out the resources below for more information about different types of emergencies and how to stay safe.
STORM READY

Greenup County is now a StormReady county!

StormReady uses a grassroots approach to help communities develop plans to handle all types of extreme weather—from tornadoes to winter storms. The program encourages communities to take a new, proactive approach to improving local hazardous weather operations by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines on how to improve their hazardous weather operations. To be officially StormReady, a community must:
-
Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
-
Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public
-
Create a system that monitors weather conditions locally
-
Promote the importance of public readiness through community seminars
-
Develop a formal hazardous weather plan, which includes training severe weather spotters and holding emergency exercises.
